The Notre Dame football team has recently struggled in recruiting. The majority of the issues have centered on the quarterback position. However, it appears that the Irish may be losing out on one of the top offensive line prospects in the 2025 class.

While losing a recruiting battle to Georgia is hardly embarrassing, it’s not a good image for a program that has had a difficult June and July. If they lose Jackson Cantwell, it will be the latest in a long line of huge losses.

Cantwell visited Athens over the weekend and felt like he was one of their main targets. In fact, he told On3 that the Bulldogs staff treated him like a “priority.” That is certainly not good news for Notre Dame football.

“I got to have a closer look at off-season workouts, and meetings and I got to experience a true recruiting-based event at Georgia,” Cantwell informed the audience. “Getting to keep building relationships and learning from Coach Searels and the rest of the offensive line staff made it special.”

The good news is that, while the Irish are currently looking like also-rans to Georgia, it does not appear that Cantwell is any closer to deciding on a school. The 5-star offensive tackle cut his list to 14 a couple weeks ago.

Since then, there hasn’t been much discussion of when he plans to reduce his list again. Even if he does, the Irish appear to have a chance to re-enter the contest.

The next stage will be convincing him that he should return to South Bend and experience everything Notre Dame football has to offer.
