The Seattle Seahawks apparently received good news about injured starting quarterback Geno Smith.
The results of Smith’s MRI for hip and knee ailments that held him out of the last two days of training camp found no serious damage, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter said on social media Friday.

“He shouldn’t miss any time,” one insider told Schefter.

Head coach Mike MacDonald told reporters on Tuesday that Smith “got banged up a little bit” during practice.

Smith, 33, has looked sharp in camp so far, putting an end to any speculation about his status as Seattle’s starting this fall. He’s in his fourth season with the Seahawks, the third as the primary signal caller.

Geno Smith to have testing after missing second practice with Seahawks

In 2022, he completed a league-best 69.8% of his passes for over 4,000 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, earning him NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors. Smith completed 65.7% of his throws last season, totaling 3,624 yards, 20 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. In 2023, he led the NFL with four fourth-quarter comebacks and five game-winning drives.

With Smith absent for the past two days, offseason trade addition Sam Howell led the first-team offense throughout practice. The 23-year-old Howell had an up-and-down start to camp, but sources suggest he looked better directing the first-team offense with Smith out. Howell is the odds-on favorite to take Smith’s backup spot, but veteran P.J. Walker is still in contention.
