The recruiting path for the 2026 class is heating up, and four-star quarterback Jonas Williams is nearing the end of his career. The Illinois quarterback has trimmed his college choices to four top-tier colleges, including the Alabama Crimson Tide. The other schools are Oregon, Ohio State, and Louisiana State University. According to Hayes Fawcett of on3.com, Williams plans to announce his decision on Saturday, August 3rd.
“Four-Star QB Jonas Williams will announce his commitment on August 3rd, he tells me for @on3recruits,” Fawcett said on X, formerly Twitter.

Williams’ final four includes two Big Ten schools (Oregon and Ohio State), as well as Alabama and LSU from the SEC. According to On3, Williams is the No. 7 overall quarterback, having earned his four-star ranking while performing admirably for his high school, Lincoln-Way East in Frankfort Heights, Illinois.
Oregon football, Alabama football lead way for Jonas Williams’ commitment
One of the most widely held beliefs in football is that the quarterback is the most essential position on the field. If you don’t have a true starter who can lift the team around him, your club will struggle to win titles. Well, Williams is a quarterback around whom you can design an offense. That is proven by his current 27 offers, which include his top four.
Alabama’s football program has no shortage of stars, with quarterback Jalen Milroe returning to lead the team this season. Heading into coach Kalen DeBoer’s first season, the Crimson Tide will once again aim for the College Football Playoff. If the team is successful in qualifying, it will be competing for the program’s 19th national title.
Meanwhile, Oregon football is the other major contender for Williams’ signature. According to On3.com, they are the most likely recipients, with the Ducks having a 96.7% chance of obtaining the quarterback. If this is accurate, Williams may join a quarterback room led by Dante Moore, who recently transferred to Eugene after his freshman season at UCLA.
Where will Williams go to college?
According to current estimates, Dan Lanning and the Oregon football program will gladly welcome Williams to Eugene. The unpredictable nature of the recruitment process, however, means Alabama, along with Ohio State football and the LSU football team, should not be written off. After all, it just takes one idea from Williams to shift the narrative.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to where the 2026 signal caller feels most comfortable. Who can provide him the best opportunity to play straight away? Will he need to transfer? Can he progress and develop at the next level? Will playing for Oregon (or any of the other top selections) get him into the NFL? Come Saturday, we’ll find out.
