Purdue has signed an in-state linebacker for the 2025 recruiting class. On Thursday evening, the Boilermakers received a verbal guarantee from Homestead’s Sam Steward.
“After further discussion and consideration with my family, I am proud to say that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Purdue University,” Steward told X.
Coach Ryan Walters and his staff made an offer to Steward in June.
Steward recorded 94 tackles last season at Homestead High School (Fort Wayne, Indiana), including 16 tackles for loss and 11 sacks. Following an excellent year, he garnered Summit All-Conference and IFCA Junior All-State honors.
Homestead ended the 2023 season on a 5-5 record. However, Steward and his teammates hope to achieve even more success this year.
“I think it’s competing in those first two games against Carmel and Noblesvlle,” Steward said of the season. “Competing against those two squads and hoping to win one of those games. Those teams are just doing things differently down there. “If we can win one of those two games, I believe our record will be better than last year.”
Steward joins Purdue’s 2025 recruiting class as the 14th player to pledge. He is also the fifth in-state player signed by the Boilermakers, and the first to verbally commit in August.
According to 247Sports, Purdue’s recruiting class in 2025 is ranked No. 61 nationwide. Steward does not currently have any rankings on the recruitment website.
