Alec Burleson went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs as the host St. Louis Cardinals upset the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-2 on Saturday, snapping a five-game losing streak. Masyn Winn homered and scored twice for the Cardinals. Nolan Arenado also hit a home run, while Willson Contreras finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. Andre Pallante (5-6) of the St. Louis Cardinals limited the Dodgers to two runs on four hits over seven innings. He had five strikeouts and two walks.

St. Louis relied on reliever JoJo Romero in the eighth inning, and Ryan Helsley closed off the Dodgers in the ninth with his 38th save. Shohei Ohtani launched his 38th home run, stole two bases, and scored twice for the Dodgers, who fell for the third time in four games. Bobby Miller (1-3), the Dodgers’ opening pitcher, gave up four runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings. He walked one, struck out once, and threw four wild pitches.

Freddie Freeman, Los Angeles’ first baseman, left the game in the eighth inning with an apparent finger injury. The Dodgers led 1-0 after the first inning. Ohtani walked, stole second base, moved to third on a flyout, and scored on Freeman’s single. The Cardinals evened the score in their half of the inning. Burleson singled, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Contreras’s single.

St. Louis extended its advantage to 3-1 in the third inning. Winn singled, and Burleson hit his 21st home run of the season. Ohtani’s home run in the fifth inning reduced the Dodgers’ deficit to 3-2, but the Cardinals extended their lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the inning. Winn launched a home run beyond the reach of leaping Dodgers center fielder Kevin Kiermaier. Contreras singled with one out, moved to second on a wild pitch, and then third on a flyout. Ryan Brasier substituted Miller, retiring Arenado on a groundout. Arenado’s eighth-inning home run brought the score to 5-2.
