After being hit on the right elbow by a pitch on Friday, Rendon responded to treatment well enough to keep his absence short, and was back at third base and batting fifth in Kansas City on Monday.

Kansas City, Missouri. When the Angels announced their lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Kansas City Royals, Anthony Rendon was included.
Rendon responded well to treatment after being hit on the right elbow by a pitch on Friday, allowing him to return to action quickly. Rendon returned to third base and batted sixth as the Angels began their 10-game road trip through Kansas City, Toronto, and Detroit.
“He’s ready to go,” manager Ron Washington stated. “He finished what he needed to do in the last two or three days and is taking care of it. He stated he was ready to go, and I didn’t need to see anything.”
SORIANO’S ROTATION REPLACEMENT
With Jose Soriano on the disabled list due to arm fatigue, the Angels have yet to name a starter for Wednesday’s series finale against Kansas City.
There have been rumors that veteran right-hander Johnny Cueto could get the call. Cueto has only allowed two runs over 12â…“ innings in his last two starts for Triple-A Salt Lake. Reid Detmers, Sam Bachman, and Caden Dana are all potential replacements for Soriano.
When asked Monday if he had anything to add to the conjecture surrounding Cueto, Washington laughed and said, “No, I don’t have anything to add to that.”
QUICK TURNAROUND
For a prime illustration of how a major league team can swiftly turn things around, Washington said the Angels simply need to look at the team they will face early this week. Last season, the Royals finished 56-106, tied for the lowest record in franchise history.
However, Kansas City was 69-55 before Monday’s game, comfortably in contention for the AL Central division title or a wild card position. The Royals have done it with Bobby Witt Jr. having a tremendous season, Vinnie Pasquantino responding in stellar fashion after missing the majority of last season with an injury, and a slew of deals that have served them well this offseason and at last month’s trade deadline.”
