Oliver Marmol’s first season as manager of the St. Louis Cardinals was successful, with a 93-69 record. However, the previous two seasons did not meet expectations. The Cardinals enter today’s MLB games with a 63-64 record, 4.5 games behind the Wild Card slot.

Some are questioning if Marmol’s third season in St. Louis will be his final as a manager. One MLB insider has already revealed Marmol’s prospective successors.

If the St. Louis Cardinals decide to replace Oliver Marmol, the difficulty will be to locate a reliable alternative who can provide greater outcomes. As we know, this is not always the case.

However, Jon Heyman of the New York Post believes Marmol could be replaced by Yadier Molina, a 10-time All-Star. Heyman also referred to former Cardinals player and coach Skip Schumaker. While he is now the manager of the Miami Marlins, some in the industry believe he could leave for better opportunities.

“It’s an average team playing average baseball, an improvement. Are front office changes also possible? Two great potential manager replacements: Cardinals legend Yadier Molina and Schumaker.”

Molina has yet to try his hand at coaching in Major League Baseball, but the Cardinals would undoubtedly welcome him. However, a more experienced solution, such as Schumaker, may be more tempting to a playoff-bound squad.

Schumaker is in his second season as manager of the Marlins. While Miami has the second-worst record in MLB, he was named Manager of the Year in 2023 after guiding the Marlins to the playoffs with an 84-78 record. There is a sense that he may perform even better at an organization that is serious about competing and does not have a modest budget, like he did in Miami.
