When the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays continue their interrupted game on Monday, catcher Danny Jansen will make history that seemed hard to achieve.
On Friday, Red Sox manager Alex Cora revealed that Jansen will replace Reese McGuire as the team’s catcher. This is significant since Jansen was batting when the game was first began and suspended… as a Blue Jays player.
This implies that on Monday, Jansen will be the first player in Major League history to play for two separate teams in the same official game.
Jansen was moved from the Blue Jays to the Red Sox right before the MLB trade deadline in late July.
The game, which was initially scheduled for June, was suspended in the top of the second inning and will resume on Monday.
Jansen has appeared in 13 games for the Red Sox since the deal, hitting.366 with a.794 OPS.
Now he has the opportunity to help them win a game in which he began by trying to beat them.
