The Tampa Bay Rays have reinstated catcher Ben Rortvedt from the family emergency list before of Saturday’s road game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, while catcher Rob Brantly has been designated for assignment. Rortvedt was originally on the paternity list before switching to the family emergency list to allow him additional time away after his child’s birth.
Rortvedt, 26, was batting.247 with three home runs and 28 RBIs in 87 games this season. He has three seasons of professional experience with the Minnesota Twins (2021), New York Yankees (2023), and Rays.206 hitter with eight home runs and 39 RBIs in 158 games. Brantly, 35, went 1-for-9 over three games while Rortvedt was gone. Brantly’s career spans nine major league seasons and six different organizations.222 hitter with seven home runs and 37 RBIs in 137 games.
