Malik Autry discusses his opening game at Opelika with Deuce Knight.

Alabama-Auburn defensive line pledge Malik Autry and the Opelika Bulldogs opened the 2024 season with a win over 2026 wide receiver target Cedarian Moran and Benjamin Russell on Friday night, ranking him as the No. 29 player nationwide according to 247Sports.

Battling through double teams for much of the night, Autry and South Alabama commit E’Mauri Smiley were a force in the Opelika defense, shutting down the Wildcats’ running game. He felt the most important aspect of the night was simply getting out on the field and getting things started.

“It was great,” Autry said. “The first half went well. In the second half, they kind of gameplanned away and stayed on the opposite side. Overall, it was a good game and a good team win. We did our job.”
