Yikes! Even away from the field, the St. Louis Cardinals are struggling.
Whatever good vibes the St. Louis Cardinals had following their brief three-game winning run evaporated on Saturday, as they were defeated 6-1 by the Minnesota Twins.

Sonny Gray had the opportunity to not only keep the momentum going for his club as they attempt an unexpected run to the playoffs, but also to defeat his previous team. He gave up five runs in six innings and was outpitched by Pablo Lopez, who held the Cardinals scoreless. St. Louis lost 6-0 and dropped back below.500. The cherry on top was the Cardinals losing talented Willson Contreras due to injury.

The Cardinals’ loss of 6-0 and Contreras on the same day was hardly their lowest point. Apparently, a leak was detected at the hotel where they were sleeping, prompting the crew to evacuate their rooms at 3-4 a.m. local time. Not excellent!

The last thing any athlete wants, especially after a frustrating loss like the Cardinals’, is to be moved from a hotel room at 3-4 a.m., down a flight of stairs, and into another hotel. This was the scenario that many Cardinals found themselves in.

With the club entering the day under.500 and 5.5 games behind the final Wild Card berth, the last thing they needed was a bad night’s sleep. Sunday’s game may cost them not only the series in Minnesota, but it could also hurt them in the standings if the teams they’re pursuing win.

Fortunately, last night’s festivities did not appear to affect their starting pitcher, Erick Fedde, who has only allowed one run in six innings as of this writing. However, it appears to have had an affect on their bats, as the Cardinals have only scored one run thus far. If they win, perhaps this will be a turning point for them. If they lose, it will be the latest frustrating setback in what has become a disastrous season in St. Louis.
