The Orioles announced this afternoon that outfielder Forrest Wall passed waivers and was sent to Triple-A Norfolk. He lacks the necessary service time and prior experience to be eligible for free agency.

Baltimore claimed Wall off waivers from the Marlins last week. They scheduled him for assignment within a few days. Wall has not played for the Orioles. He has 31 major league games under his belt, split between the Braves and Miami over the last two years. Wall has an impressive.311/.380/.422 slash in that short period of time. His Triple-A record is less impressive, with a.269/.355/.387 batting line after 369 games.

The 28-year-old often gets on base at a respectable rate. He doesn’t bat for much power, and he’s not known as a tremendous defensive outfielder. Despite his incredible speed, which converts to the bases. In his four minor league seasons, Wall has stolen at least 35 bases. He surpassed the 50-steal mark in both 2022 and 2023, but he is 20-28 in that category between MLB and Triple-A this season. The Orioles will keep Wall in Norfolk for the stretch run and may reselect his contract if they decide to acquire a designated pinch-runner. If Baltimore does not re-sign him, he will be eligible for minor league free agency next summer.
