Kris Bryant, a Colorado Rockies utility player, has spent the majority of the season on the injured list, and his comeback for the rest of the season is uncertain. The time is ticking, and we are unlikely to see Bryant play. The former National League MVP for the Chicago Cubs joins the San Francisco Giants’ Kyle Harrison and the New York Mets’ Jeff McNeil as players who have been announced as unlikely to return this season.

Former NL MVP Kris Bryant Unlikely to Return from IL

As Kris Bryant attempts to resurrect his career, the former MVP can't hide his frustration: 'It's through the roof' – Chicago Tribune

The unfortunate reality is that if Bryant does not return, he will have appeared in only 159 of 486 club games since joining with the Rockies. Colorado still owes him $108 million under his deal. Rockies manager Bud Black told reporters that he is feeling better. According to The Denver Post, he reportedly informed them of Bryant, “You know, in the NFL, you have ‘probable,’ ‘questionable,’ and ‘doubtful.'” I’m going to call it doubtful, but we’re running out of time.” With his extended absence this season, it’s easy to forget he even plays for the Rockies. It’s regrettable that he’s gone from being a key player to an afterthought. He’s only played 37 games this season.

Bryant has not played since August 10 as he recovers from a back injury. Bryant’s future with the Rockies appears to be uncertain, but the fact that they still owe him a significant sum of money would be detrimental. Bryant’s seven-year contract means he will take a position until 2028, limiting the opportunity for younger players to break through. It’s a sticky situation, but Bryant’s injury-plagued season has surely hurt. Even if Bryant returns, the Rockies are in last place in the National League West. With only a few games remaining, his chances of making a lasting impression are minimal.
