The former 6th overall pick returned to the Amarillo Sod Poodles in Double-A on Sunday, going 1-for-5 with two strikeouts. Lawlar played shortstop on the field.

Lawlar, ranked as the No. 8 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline, has played in only 14 games this season. He missed a large chunk of the first half of the season due to a thumb injury.

According to Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo, Lawlar could return to Triple-A “soon.”
Since being picked in the first round by Arizona in 2021, Lawlar’s career has been anything but easy. His troubles began early, as he sustained a season-ending shoulder injury just two games into his professional debut. He was placed on the injured list in May 2022 for a few months due to a back ailment.

Despite making the playoff roster with Arizona in October, Lawlar was unable to secure a berth on the Diamondbacks’ 2024 Opening Day roster, losing out to rookie Blaze Alexander.

This season, Lawlar has appeared in only four games with the Reno Aces in Triple-A.
