ESPN’s Rece Davis Thinks That Ole Miss Rebels Head Coach Lane Kiffin Has a Better Job Where He Is Now
The Florida Gators will most likely need a new head football coach following the 2024 season. Florida is 1-2, and the fan base has been demanding for head coach Billy Napier to be fired. The Gators may part ways with him at the end of the season.
Lane Kiffin, the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels, has been considered as a potential replacement at Florida. ESPN’s Rece Davis stated on the College GameDay Podcast:
“I’m going to say this is going to throw some cold water on Florida and probably help Lane. As I said earlier, I’m not the biggest fan about this, but you also can’t ignore the obvious, and you also can’t ignore the obvious and pretend they won’t go after Lane Kiffin. As we sit here right now, Lane Kiffin has a better job right now. He is, at best, making a lateral move, and it’s not because Ole Miss is better than Florida right now. It’s because they can get in on players now. They’re aligned with their NIL, he makes the decisions, he’s in charge, Lane has a better job.”
Rece Davis’ viewpoint is particularly noteworthy considering the Florida Gators program is a larger brand than the Ole Miss Rebels. However, the Rebels are in a much better position to compete in the SEC Conference over the next five years than the Florida Gators.
Life After Jaxson Dart
This season, senior Jaxson Dart serves as the Rebels’ quarterback. Dart is a possibility to win the Heisman Trophy this season. He has helped Ole Miss become a talented offense.
Austin Simmons, a redshirt freshman, is predicted to be the Rebels’ starting quarterback in 2025. Lane Kiffin must decide whether he is ready to take over Dart or if they will need to use the transfer portal. Finally, Kiffin will not be the only coach touted for the Florida Gators position. Other coaches vying for the role are Matt Rhule of Nebraska and James Franklin of Penn State.
