Yordan Alvarez, the Houston Astros’ star, left Sunday’s home game against the Los Angeles Angels in the third inning with a right knee contusion.
The left fielder injured his right leg while sliding into second base on a double. He spent several minutes on the field being examined by an Astros training staff member before leaving.
Mauricio Dubon entered the game to pinch run for Alvarez and play left field. Houston was ahead 4-3 after six innings.
Alvarez, 27, went 2-for-2 on Sunday, including a single. The three-time All-Star outfielder, including this season, is now hitting.308 with 35 home runs and 86 RBI.
