When the Notre Dame football team struggled to win the Miami Redhawks on Saturday, the frustration and surprise of the season’s start bubbled over. The offense under Riley Leonard struggled to move the ball and complete throws.
The supporters found it difficult to sit there and not express their emotions. As the first half ended, boos began to rain down from the stands. Then the second half began, and the Irish may have demonstrated exactly the type of offensive onslaught that offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock was looking for.
The Notre Dame football team defeated Miami 28-3. Riley Leonard established a personal best for rushing yards in a game. For the second consecutive game, he rushed for more than 100 yards. He also completed 16 of 25 throws for 154 yards, including his first touchdown pass as a Fighting Irish.
Afterward, his head coach, Marcus Freeman, made it obvious that Leonard would never be benched in the first half. He made it obvious that no amount of boos would change his opinion.

As for why Freeman is so committed to Leonard at quarterback, even if his throwing game isn’t particularly remarkable. The coach appreciates his quarterback’s ability to transform into a weapon on the ground in an instant.
“If you miss a tackle, he has the ability to take it all the way.”
For this week, Notre Dame football supporters must assume that a change at the position is unlikely. Now the focus is on a Top 25 matchup against Louisville.
