Under Lane Kiffin, the Ole Miss Rebels have rejuvenated their football program, and with the SEC schedule for the 2024 season about to be released soon, they appear to be as ready as anyone to make a genuine run at the College Football Playoff.
The Auburn Tigers, coached by former Ole Miss front man Hugh Freeze, are on the opposite side of the SEC.
Freeze was the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels from 2012 to 2016, and by the end of his stint, he had significantly elevated the Rebels’ profile. He guided the Rebels to a (9-3) finish in 2014, which resulted to their appearance in the 2014 Peach Bowl, their first major bowl appearance since the 1970 Sugar Bowl.

In 2015, Freeze continued the football program’s upward trajectory. The rebels completed with their second consecutive nine-win season and earned a spot in the 2016 Sugar Bowl, where they won 48-20 against Oklahoma State. They finished ninth in the AP Poll and tenth in the Coaches’ Poll, marking their first top-10 finish in a final poll since 1969.
The NCAA fired the former Ole Miss Rebels head coach in 2015 after a series of serious allegations. An inquiry was begun, and it was determined that boosters arranged a variety of “impermissible benefits” for players, including car loans and cash.
Eventually, Freeze’s phone, which was issued by the university, was searched, and the investigation revealed several chats between the head coach and escort services.

Under Freeze, the Ole Miss football program committed a number of recruiting and academic breaches, which contributed to the NCAA’s decision to void 27 of Freeze’s victories and prohibit the team from postseason play for two years.

Freeze resigned from Ole Miss in 2017 after it was discovered that he had used a university cellphone to contact escort services at least a dozen times in 33 months.

Former Ole Miss Rebels QB Bo Wallace Unleashes On Former HC Hugh Freeze

Arkansas defeated the Auburn Tigers, whom Freeze now leads as head coach, on Saturday.
Freeze used two quarterbacks in the game, and while their final stat lines weren’t horrible, the now-Auburn coach went out of his way to critique the team’s poor quarterback play during his post-game press conference.

“I know that there’s people open, and I know that we’re running the football,” Freeze explained. “We’ve got to find a guy that won’t throw it to the other team and we’ve got to find running backs that hold on to it.”

Bo Wallace, a former Ole Miss Rebels quarterback, watched Freeze’s comments after Saturday’s game and quickly took to X to unleash on him. He claimed that Freeze constantly blames his players and never accepts responsibility for his actions.

“We’re approaching the point that he’s thrown so many QBs under the bus, that maybe no one wants to play for him?” Wallace stated. “His offense helped me put up numbers when I blew my shoulder out.” Why is it always someone else’s fault for a loss? I count the number of times the word “I” is uttered during news conferences after a win. I appreciate what he accomplished for me, but my son would not be playing for him.”

Wallace moved to Ole Miss in 2012 particularly to play for Freeze. 2012, He was selected the Ole Miss Rebels’ starting quarterback before the season and guided them to a strong finish, earning the Music City Bowl MVP award. Wallace went on to start for the Rebels in both 2013 and 2014.

Bo Wallace discusses his legacy, Egg Bowl win

However, after Freeze ripped out Auburn quarterbacks and particular teammates on Saturday, Wallace exploded on his old coach, claiming that all he cared about is the money in his pockets.

I probably will be too , I won’t notice tho… all the guy did was break my body in half and I played every game getting a numbing shot just to go get him his money …. Then I graduate and can’t do anything to benefit him ….. and he hasn’t helped me ONE TIME !!! That’s the truth… https://t.co/2D0cIWepHg

“But he has never helped me in his life…” It was all about earning him a win so he could collect his extra 100 racks per win,” Wallace added. “If y’all knew the medications and shots I was taking to get that man his money you wouldn’t believe they would let you walk on a field like that.”
