Zach Neto, Angels shortstop, left Thursday’s 7-0 loss to the Chicago White Sox due to right shoulder soreness.

In the fourth inning, Neto was hurt while attempting to take second on a fastball in the dirt. He reached base on a one-out infield single.

The 23-year-old Neto remained on the ground after being marked out. He was helped to his feet and returned to the dugout.

“I’m not worried about it,” Neto remarked. “Of course it’s something I want to keep my eye on, but nothing that’s gonna keep me out for too long.”

After Neto’s departure, Jack López moved to shortstop, and Michael Stefanic took over at second. López made a crucial error during Chicago’s seven-run fifth inning.

“Only shoulder discomfort. “He dove and his shoulder got a little sore,” manager Ron Washington explained. “And since he just did it, I’m not going to force him out there tomorrow, whether he can or not. You need to take care of him.”

Los Angeles was also missing first baseman Nolan Schanuel in the series finale. Schanuel fouled a ball off his right leg in the first inning of Wednesday night’s 4-3 defeat.

“He’s moving around better,” Washington remarked. “We’ll see where he is when we get back to Anaheim.”
