The Cincinnati Reds have signed right-handed reliever Trevor Kuncl to a minor league contract, according to Driveline’s Twitter account. He graduated from St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati and played collegiately at George Washington. During his first two seasons in college, he played catcher, first base, second base, third base, shortstop, and left field.

After five years at George Washington, where he had a 4.35 ERA in 122.0 innings, 52 walks, and 117 strikeouts, he went undrafted. He pitched 76 games for Lake Erie in the Frontier League in 2022 and 2023 before joining the Texas Rangers in the spring of 2024. The Rangers dismissed him at the end of spring training, and he re-signed with Lake Erie before joining Lancaster in the Atlantic League. Between his two stops in 2024, he had a 2.31 ERA in 46.2 innings, 12 walks, and 64 strikeouts.

The Mexican Winter League season starts tonight, and Trevor Kuncl is expected to pitch for the Aguilas de Mexicali. When spring training arrives in 2025, Trevor Kuncl will be 26 years old, so time isn’t on his side. His possessions, on the other hand, work in his favor. His fastball is effective in the mid-90s and may reach the upper 90s. He also adds a cutter and a splitter.
