In terms of total stats, the Cleveland Guardians saw Josh Naylor have a breakout season in 2024.

He had already had a.843 OPS in 2023, but he hit 30 home runs for the first time in his career this season.

He ended up hitting 31 balls over the fence and scoring 108 runs.

The Guardians, on the other hand, are well-known for their distinct method of operation.

When a player becomes more expensive and approaches free agency, they move him to gain some value in exchange while avoiding the long-term commitment of a contract extension.

Andre Knott, a team reporter, hinted that this could be Naylor’s fate.

“@DreKnott discusses Josh Naylor’s future with the Cleveland Guardians… “Everybody loves Josh but there’s always a sign with the Cleveland baseball team…” ESPN Cleveland posted on X.

The Guardians are unlikely to pay a premium for a first baseman, so a trade is always an option.

However, Naylor has emerged as a serious middle-of-the-order offensive threat.

Even if he isn’t a major on-base threat and his OPS isn’t above.800, teams will certainly listen when presented a player capable of hitting 30 home runs and driving in 100 runs.

Kyle Manzardo is ready to take over at first base, and Ralphy Velazquez is on his way, which helps the Guardians.

The latter is in the low minors but has a lot of potential.

They should provide the Guardians with affordable first-base production over the next few years, allowing them to deal Naylor for some much-needed pitching help.

At this point, an extension for Naylor is feasible but doubtful.
