It’s no secret that the St. Louis Cardinals plan to sell this winter. The Cards’ front office is undergoing a retooling of sorts. Chaim Bloom will succeed John Mozeliak, whose contract expires at the end of the season. Mozeliak is anticipated to continue with the group.

Paul Goldschmidt is a free agent who will not return to the St. Louis Cardinals. However, Nolan Arenado remains on the roster and might be a valuable trade piece for the Cardinals. Arenado is under contract for the next two years and is very inexpensive in comparison to other free agents. Arenado continues to excel at third base, a high-value position. Rather than hang onto him. Mozeliak and company may move the long-time Rockies third baseman this winter.

The St. Louis Cardinals could trade Nolan Arenado sooner rather than later

According to Redbird Rants’ Thomas Gauvin, Arenado could be an appealing alternative for contenders, particularly those who do not want to spend money on players like Alex Bregman or Willy Adames.

“Teams who do not want to devote that much money or time to those free agents may be interested in acquiring Nolan Arenado through trade. Each summer, it’s a toss-up between signing free agents first and trading guys first. “Any team that is left without Bregman or Adames may be interested in trading for Nolan Arenado,” Gauvin stated.

What’s worse for Arenado is that the present leadership doesn’t appear to care whether he’s part of the solution. Brant Brown, the new St. Louis hitting coach, has already visited with Nolan Gorman and Jordan Walker. However, he did not contact Arenado, which speaks volumes.

With Arenado out, St. Louis does not want to waste key resources or implement their new strategy until spring training.

Examining The Nolan Arenado Trade

Because he is under contract, Arenado may remain with the Cards next spring if the offers do not meet their expectations. However, the winter will eventually warm up, so Arenado (and others) may be on the move in the near future.
