In just a few hours, the Alabama Crimson Tide will meet the Michigan Wolverines in a showdown between two of college football’s most iconic programs. While both had “down” seasons, the Crimson Tide will have a chance to win ten games in the first season under Kalen DeBoer. The new head coach commented about his opponent in the days leading up to the game, making it apparent that he respects head coach Sherrone Moore.
“We’ve known each other for a while, and a lot of respect for him, know some of the staff, and also just the program there at Michigan in general,” DeBoer said in reference to Moore and the university. Before the game, the Alabama Football X – formerly Twitter – page posted a two-word message: “It’s GAMEDAY!!”
Alabama enters the ReliaQuest Bowl as a 15.5-point favorite, courtesy to standout quarterback Jalen Milroe’s decision to play. In the era of opt-outs, the Crimson Tide will have the majority of their top players on the field.
“We didn’t have a big meeting, but I think the leaders … that’s always the key is what’s your leadership, and the leaders just understanding the precedent that’s been set here in this program when it comes to bowl games, opting out, and just kind of setting the tone on how important every opportunity when you get to put the crimson on is, and these guys get that one last chance here this year,” DeBoer said when asked about players choosing to participate. Alabama and Michigan will tip off at 12:00 p.m. ET. The game will be aired on ESPN.
