Starting this season, Paul Goldschmidt will play for his third MLB team, and his transition from St. Louis Cardinals red to New York Yankee pinstripes will be an unusual sight, at least at first. Goldschmidt began his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks, but rose to prominence in St. Louis, where he won the MVP, Gold Glove, and Silver Slugger awards over six seasons.

Goldschmidt, who left St. Louis in free agency to accept a one-year contract with the Yankees, took out a newspaper advertising on Sunday to send a parting message to his supporters. Here’s what it said:

“Thank you, Card Nation!

Thank you for welcoming me as one of your own. Thank you for the cheers. Thank you for supporting me through the ups and downs.

Most importantly, thank you for the relationships and memories that will be with me for a lifetime! It was an honor to wear the Cardinals uniform and do my best to continue the history established by so many before me.”

The entire page looked fantastic, and it certainly lived up to the polish Goldschmidt brought to his performance during his time with St. Louis.

Goldschmidt now joins the Yankees, who are coming off their first World Series appearance in 15 years. However, New York lost Juan Soto to free agency, and Goldschmidt now fills a first-base position that has been a bit of a turnstile over the last year. New York believes he can make it more consistent.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals have missed the playoffs for the past two years and will attempt to retool with Goldschmidt out and Nolan Arenado as a possible replacement, though the chances of that are becoming increasingly small.
