Following Notre Dame’s 27-24 victory against No. 6 Penn State in the College Football Playoff semifinal, running back Jeremiyah Love expressed his desire for a repeat with Ohio State for all the marbles. OSU has beaten the Fighting Irish in the last two seasons, including a 17-14 victory in the final seconds of the 2023 game at Notre Dame Stadium.
Love believes the Irish should have beaten the Buckeyes in 2023 and hopes to win the CFP national title versus Ohio State. He believes OSU is the “best” competition in the playoffs. Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and quarterback Riley Leonard downplayed Love’s statements about wanting revenge on OSU, stating the squad didn’t need any additional motivation to win the championship.
However, Notre Dame freshman running back Aneyas Williams was not on the team in 2023, but he added fuel to the fire this week by agreeing with Love’s statement about wanting to beat the “best” team in the nation. “That’s my thinking as well. I want to play at my best and against the greatest,” Williams stated after being granted his demand to play Ohio State rather than Texas, according to Tyler Horka of On3 Sports.
Ohio State is 6-2 all-time against Notre Dame. The Irish have dropped six consecutive games versus the Buckeyes.
Notre Dame’s last win over OSU was a 7-2 victory on October 31, 1936. According to ESPN BET, the Irish are 8.5-point underdogs over Ohio State.
