The 2024 college football season will end on Monday night, when the No. 7 seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish (14-1) face the No. 8 seed Ohio State Buckeyes (13-2) in the national championship. Most teams’ seasons have ended, prompting them to reflect on their performances and begin preparations for the following season. Among these teams is the Georgia Bulldogs (11-3), the No. 2 seed. The Bulldogs had a rollercoaster season, winning the SEC championship but being ousted by the Fighting Irish in the first round of the College Football Playoffs.

Their postseason hopes were hampered by the loss of standout quarterback Carson Beck, who was hurt in the first half of the SEC Championship Game. Beck began the season as a projected first-round choice in the upcoming NFL draft. Following the announcement of his season-ending injury, he stated his intention to enter the draft.

Just over a week ago, Beck startled everyone by entering the transfer portal rather than remaining in the NFL draft. He ultimately chose the Miami Hurricanes. On “The Paul Finebaum Show,” SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum responded candidly to the news that Beck would not remain in the draft.

“Let’s not sugarcoat it, the NFL didn’t want any part of Carson Beck,” Finebaum went on. “He had a tough season. I’m sad he got harmed, and I hope he has a fantastic time on South Beach.” Beck had a poor season this year. He completed 64.7% of his passes, totaling 3,485 yards with 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. In comparison, in his debut year as a starter last year, he completed 72.4% of his passes for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions. In addition, he contributed to Georgia’s most losses in a season since 2018.

He is now headed to Miami, which recently had its best season since 2017, finishing 10-3. Cam Ward, a Heisman Trophy nominee, led the Hurricanes with 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing 67.2% of his passes. Ward finished second in yards and first in passing touchdowns in college football, and his great numbers helped him advance significantly in the draft rankings, something Beck likely intends to achieve as well.

Despite these victories, the Hurricanes just missed the College Football Playoff, but they are certain that Beck can help them achieve that goal.
