While Spring Training is quickly approaching, the MLB offseason is now very quiet. However, Wednesday turned out to be a very momentous day for New York Yankees superstar outfielder Aaron Judge, who announced some major news on social media.

Judge has had a very busy few months for a variety of reasons. On the field, he helped the Yankees return to the World Series, where they were defeated in five games by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Off the field, his wife, Samantha, was expecting their first child, and the star outfielder said she gave birth on January 27.

“1/27/25 Nora Rose Judge. “What an incredible week it’s been, and I can’t wait for the memories the three of us will make,” Judge wrote on Instagram. Judge’s fans in New York are definitely ecstatic with this revelation. The front office’s efforts does not stop there, as they announced immediately after Judge’s revelation that they had claimed former Kansas City Royals infielder Braden Shewmake from waivers.

“Earlier today, the Yankees claimed INF Braden Shewmake off waivers from the Kansas City Royals,” the Yankees said in a post on X, the previous Twitter.

Shewmake briefly made his MLB debut with the Atlanta Braves in 2023, before playing 29 games with the Chicago White Sox in 2024. His numbers weren’t particularly good, as he hit just .125 with one home run and four runs batted in. After getting designated for assignment on New Year’s Day, the Royals claimed him on Jan. 8.

Shewmake’s tenure in Kansas City was brief, as he was designated for assignment on January 31 before signing with the Yankees. With the versatility to play in at various infield positions and some baserunning speed, Shewmake might serve as a utility option off the bench if he can stay with the club.
