The Yankees manager made it obvious that when the team acquired Chisholm, the plan was for him to play second base while Gleyber Torres moved to third. Torres declared himself a second baseman and said he had no plans to change positions. Now that Torres has joined the Detroit Tigers, Cashman is discussing where Jazz Chisholm will play in 2025.

Brian Cashman calls out Torres’ ‘unwillingness’ again

When questioned about the Yankees’ expectations for Jazz Chisholm this season, Cashman reminded the media of the first strategy he had in mind and how Gleyber Torres failed to cooperate.

Torres responded to Cashman’s statements on social media. Torres’ tweet from Thursday night has since been removed, however decoding the use of emojis in this post reveals that Torres said: “Still? “Just turn the page.”

The truth is that Brian Cashman only stated facts during this interview. Torres did appear unwilling to alter positions and push Chisholm to play a defensive position he was not used to. Fortunately for Aaron Boone, Chisholm is a tremendous athlete who can play anywhere on the diamond, as he proved in 2024.

Now that Torres is no longer on the Yankees’ roster, it appears that Chisholm will return to the middle infield and play second base while Cashman considers options for improving at third. The Yankees have internal possibilities for the hot corner, such as DJ LeMahieu, but trading for Nolan Arenado remains a possibility.

The conflict between Cashman and Torres is likely to end here. However, if the Tigers are unable to solve their third base issues before the season begins, Torres may be asked to swap positions. Detroit has been linked to Alex Bregman rumors, but if that does not materialize, we could see some déjà vu.
