MLB Pipeline has produced one of the more entertaining pieces of the offseason.
They used their predictive talents and expertise of each farm system to identify the prospect they believe will be best for each firm two years from now, in 2027.
Because future draft picks and international signings cannot be included, it solely takes into account players in each minor league system at the time.
The exercise asked professionals to consider possibilities in the minors but with a very high ceiling.
For the Cleveland Guardians, that description fits outfielder Jaison Chourio.
“While older brother Jackson may have greater power and speed, Jaison may have better bat-to-ball skills and defensive value. Signed for $1.2 million out of Venezuela in 2022, he won the Carolina League’s MVP and top prospect awards last year after leading the Single-A circuit in walks (86 in 98 games) and ranking second in on-base percentage (.414) and third in OPS (.812) at the age of 19,” MLB Pipeline reported.
If Jaison Chourio hadn’t injured his wrist while attempting a defensive play, he could have advanced to High-A.
He has exceptional on-base abilities and plate discipline for a 19-year-old.
With two or three years away from the majors, he’s easily projected as the top Guardians prospect moving forward.
He has an outstanding glove, knows how to get on base (19.9 percent walk rate in Single-A last year), and has incredible speed, as evidenced by his 44 stolen bases.
He only hit five home runs last year, but he has the frame to add more power as he grows.
If it happens, keep an eye out.
Jason Chourio could be as good as his brother, who is a star for the Milwaukee Brewers, even if he doesn’t show as much power.
