The Pittsburgh Steelers could have a new wide receiver option in the trade market. According to various reports, the San Francisco 49ers have granted star wide receiver Deebo Samuel permission to pursue a trade. The Steelers reportedly inquired about Samuel last offseason but were unable to complete the transaction after shifting their focus to Brandon Aiyuk.

Samuel, 29, is currently looking for a trade outside of San Francisco. With Samuel owed $17.5 million in the final year of his contract, it appears like San Francisco will have to eat some of the cost to facilitate this move. If they don’t, Samuel finds it difficult to imagine the market being so luxurious.

With none of that money guaranteed, it becomes much easier to effectuate a transfer. Samuel made 51 receptions for 670 yards and three scores in 15 games this season. He added 42 rushes for 136 yards and a touchdown.

Because of his build, Samuel has been employed as both a wide receiver and a running back during his career, garnering over 4000 receiving yards and over 1000 rushing yards combined.

He joins Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp as renowned elite wide receivers on the trade market, and it is expected that the Steelers, who scouted for a star receiver in 2024, will be interested in both players in some capacity.
