This offseason, the San Francisco 49ers’ offense could get a little revamp. Brock Purdy’s future with the 49ers remains a major concern. The quarterback might be looking at a contract worth around $55 million annually.
The 49ers secured one of Purdy’s targets in 2024 by extending Brandon Aiyuk’s contract. Purdy had a solid pass-catching corps that included Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Ricky Pearsall.
The 49ers might change up the mix by dealing Samuel.
San Francisco 49ers expected to shop Deebo Samuel
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the 49ers are anticipated to shop Samuel this offseason.
“Niners’ star receiver Deebo Samuel, a linchpin of their offense since 2019, might have played his last down in San Francisco,” Rapoport told reporters. According to sources, the 49ers are considering dealing Samuel this summer. While it is not guaranteed that Samuel is done in San Francisco, all sides appear to be willing to move on if that happens.”
The 49ers owe Samuel $17.55 million in 2025, the final year of a three-year contract extension agreed in 2022 for $71.55 million.
Samuel, 29, exhibited symptoms of declining productivity in 2024. He caught 51 catches for 670 yards and three touchdowns, substantially fewer than his seven touchdowns in 2023. He has 4,792 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns in his six-year NFL career.
49ers rumored to be in play for Davante Adams
Rapoport’s claim came just one day after ESPN’s Dan Graziano suggested the 49ers were interested in New York Jets wide Davante Adams.
“The Jets must address the future of receiver Davante Adams, whose cap hit of $38.3 million is untenable.” Graziano wrote. “A source told me Adams is interested in returning to the West Coast and would consider joining teams like the Rams or Chargers if he is released. I would include the 49ers in the conversation as well. Adams grew up in northern California.

Adams had a productive year in 2024, totaling 85 receptions for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns. Adams will be 32 at the start of the 2025 campaign.
More drama with wide receivers appears to be on the horizon, similar to what happened last year in The Bay with Aiyuk.
