The Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl LIX by defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 on Sunday in New Orleans. The Eagles delivered a strong performance, with quarterback Jalen Hurts performing admirably on the greatest stage. The Eagles now hold the Lombardi Trophy, and the Chiefs’ quest for a Super Bowl three-peat is gone.
Following the game, the Alabama Crimson Tide football X account sent a congratulations message to a few past Alabama Crimson Tide players. The players in the post included DeVonta Smith, Landon Dickerson, Byron Young, Tyler Steen, Eli Ricks, Cameron Latu, and Jalen Hurts.
However, the Alabama account received significant backlash for featuring Hurts in the message. Hurts began his college career at Alabama, however he was benched in a national championship game for Tua Tagovailoa. Hurts eventually left and went to Oklahoma to conclude his college career.
“Jalen is a Sooner,” one fan commented.
“Jalen Hurts is an OU alum,” another person responded. “Alabama taking credit for Jalen Hurts after pushing him out the door for Tua is LOL funny,” a another individual claimed. “Jalen, stay in your lane, son,” another said. “Nah Jalen, sooner you turned your back on him,” wrote another. “Now you want to claim Hurts?” inquired another.

Alabama benched Hurts in favor of Tua Tagovailoa in the 2018 national championship game, trailing Georgia 13-0 at the half. Tagovailoa came in and led Alabama to a dramatic comeback victory, 26-23. Hurts then departed Tuscaloosa to join the Oklahoma Sooners. He completed his college career in 2019, scoring a career-high 32 touchdowns and finishing second in the Heisman Trophy voting. Overall, Alabama’s decision to include Hurts in the graphic has not gone over well.
