The New York Yankees lost Juan Soto to the New York Mets and immediately began making moves to improve their roster. They traded for Cody Bellinger and Devin Williams. They signed Paul Goldschmidt and Max Fried. However, they might still be seeking for an infielder.

The Yankees will currently have a platoon at third or second base, depending on where Jazz Chisholm Jr. plays. However, FanSided’s Zach Pressnell proposed the trade, which would bring Nolan Arenado from the St. Louis Cardinals to the Bronx, resolving the Yankees’ infield riddle.

Yankees receive: third baseman Nolan Arenado and $30 million

Cardinals receive: infielder Jorbit Vivas (Yankees No. 17)

“The Cardinals likely won’t be willing to eat more than $20 million of Arenado’s remaining deal, but that shouldn’t be a problem for Brian Cashman,” Pressnell predicted. “The Yankees could send one mid-tier prospect to the Cardinals in a glorified salary dump which benefits both sides.” Arenado signed an eight-year, $260 million contract with the Colorado Rockies before being transferred to the Cardinals. He still has a lot of money left on his contract, but if he wants out, he appears to have all the leverage. The Cardinals could lose some money to move him.

Arenado has eight All-Star appearances, ten Gold Gloves, five Silver Slugger awards, and six Platinum Gloves. He might be the primary third baseman, allowing Chisholm to play second base. Arenbado batted.272/.325/.394 last season. He would be a stronger choice than DJ LeMahieu, who now sees the most of the action whenever Chisholm is not.
