Klay Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks will be shorthanded for a few weeks after Anthony Davis suffered an adductor strain. The Mavericks will now go forward without their All-Star power forward, Luka Doncic, whom they dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Davis. On Wednesday, the Mavericks met a familiar foe: Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors, for the third time this season. Thompson had the last laugh over his former team, helping Dallas win 111-107. Thompson is now 2–1 against his other “Splash Brother.”

Defeating the Warriors is likely more important to Thompson than other games. The five-time NBA All-Star spent 11 seasons with the Warriors, helping the team win four championships and establishing one of the greatest dynasties in NBA history. Following the victory, the Mavericks shared a video on social media of Thompson’s initial response to defeating his former team. The former Washington State player can be seen celebrating with fans before being asked how he felt about the win, delivering a strong message to his teammates.

“Felt great,” Thompson remarked. “Let’s get one more and go into the break with some momentum. Especially with [the team] injured, we’re still competing, you know?” Special won for 31 @KlayThompson // #MFFL pic.twitter.com/1hHPDwkprL — Dallas Mavericks (@dallasmavs), February 13, 2025.

Thompson finished the game with 17 points (6-of-19 shooting, 5-of-14 from three), seven rebounds, and two assists. However, Kyrie Irving carried the load for Dallas, finishing with a game-high 42 points and seven rebounds. Curry finished the game with 25 points (9-of-23 shooting), five rebounds, and eight assists. This was the Warriors’ first loss with Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler playing together.

Thompson and the Mavericks (29-26) will play one final game before All-Star Weekend, hosting Tyler Herro and the Miami Heat on Thursday.
