Running back Travis Etienne has been the target of trade rumors this winter, which is understandable. He’s entering his contract year, and Tank Bigsby consistently outperformed him last year. If the Jacksonville Jaguars elect to release him, they might replace him with the 2023 NFL running touchdown leader.

On Valentine’s Day, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media announced that the Miami Dolphins would release running back Raheem Mostert, along with cornerback Kendall Fuller and tight end Durham Smythe.

Mostert is undoubtedly the standout of the group. Before Rapoport broke the news, Mostert’s agent announced on social media that his client would be “playing elsewhere next season,” stressing that a split benefits both parties.

After going undrafted in 2015, Mostert joined with the Philadelphia Eagles but was quickly dismissed. Before joining the San Francisco 49ers in 2017, he played for the Phins, Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, and Baltimore Ravens. The Purdue product then gained some stability. Throughout his time in the Bay Area, he played primarily as a reserve.

Mostert left for Miami in 2022. Finally, he was able to put everything together. In his debut season with the Phins, he had a career-high 891 running yards. In 2023, the Smyrna Beach, Florida native racked up 1,012 yards and a league-high 18 touchdowns on 209 attempts.
