Jamarion Matthews, a 2026 four-star edge rusher, has committed to Alabama. Matthews chose Alabama over Florida, LSU, and Clemson, among other options.
The Alabama native has been a top focus for the Alabama coaching staff since he received an offer in October. Matthews previously told Touchdown Alabama what the offer meant to him.
“One of my goals was to get an offer from this school, because my grandma was a true Alabama fan and her not being able to watch my high school football career on this earth,” Matthews reported to Touchdown Alabama. “Me being able to get an offer from one of the biggest college football programs in college football tells me I’m doing something right.”
Matthews was clearly doing something right. Following Alabama’s offer, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Clemson, LSU, and Florida State all made offers. However, Alabama stuck out the most to Matthews, which led to his commitment to the Crimson Tide.
“My overall thoughts on Alabama’s program are very high,” Matthews said. “The atmosphere, the tradition, and how much the staff cares about the players outside of football.” Everything at Alabama was really great to hear.”
Matthews is seen as a Wolf in Alabama’s defense. He is classified as 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds. During his junior year in high school, Matthews had 57 tackles and 17 sacks.

Matthews announced Thursday that he was transferring from Sparkman High School (AL) to Gainesville High School (AL). He will now be teammates with 2026 four-star linebacker and Alabama recruit Xavier Griffin. Griffin is presently committed to USC.
Matthews is the third pledge in the ’26 class, behind interior offensive lineman Chris Booker and cornerback Zyan Gibson.
