Nolan Arenado has once again demonstrated his dedication to the St. Louis Cardinals, despite the persistent trade speculations that have surrounded him this winter.
According to John Denton, manager Oli Marmol confirmed that Arenado, along with four other seasoned players, traveled the three hours to Tampa for a game against the New York Yankees. Arenado, in particular, did not want to have two straight days off and pushed to play in the game, demonstrating his desire to stay completely engaged with the club.
The Cardinals’ front management has been upfront about looking into trades for Arenado. President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak has publicly stated that the team explored transferring their superstar third baseman. However, Arenado’s full no-trade clause narrowed their alternatives, making a deal tough.
The Boston Red Sox were originally considered a possible landing point, but after signing Alex Bregman, they moved on. Arenado also rejected a proposed deal with the Houston Astros, demonstrating his control over his destiny. Despite the Cardinals’ readiness to move him, Arenado has maintained a professional demeanor, leading and focusing on his game.
His loyalty to St. Louis is not new. Although the Cardinals were eliminated early in 2021 and 2022, Arenado never used his opt-out rights. After a stellar 2022 season, he could have won a larger deal elsewhere, but he chose to remain. Even after two seasons without a playoff berth, he has not expressed a strong desire to depart.
Though the Cardinals have had a turbulent offseason, Arenado’s resolve to compete for playing time in spring training says volumes. Even while Mozeliak considers trade alternatives, his leadership and passion remain strong. The team may have considered transferring Arenado, but his loyalty to St. Louis remains strong.

Even though trade conversations have cooled for the time being, Arenado remains committed. Only time will tell whether he intends to stay in St. Louis or not.
