Despite winning his first NFL MVP award, Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. Since 2019, the Bills have been a steady playoff presence, securing a position annually. But Buffalo’s story has always ended the same way: they lost in the AFC playoffs and missed the Super Bowl.
Mitch Morse, the Bills’ center, played an important role in the team’s six consecutive playoff appearances. From 2019 until 2023, the former Chiefs standout played alongside Allen in Buffalo. However, after playing one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024, Morse has opted to retire after ten seasons in the NFL.
“I want to thank the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars for ten unforgettable seasons,” Morse stated on Instagram. “Most importantly, I want to thank my wife, Caitlin, and my children, Kennedy and Deacon, for their unwavering love and support throughout this journey. I’m looking forward to spending more time with them as I approach retirement.
Allen expressed appreciation for his old teammate’s career decision by sharing Morse’s retirement announcement on his Instagram Story with the remark “.”
After five years with the Missouri Tigers, Morse was picked with the 49th overall in the 2015 NFL draft by the Chiefs. After three years of relying on Alex Smith, Patrick Mahomes took over at quarterback for Kansas City’s final season. However, Morse left for the Bills over the offseason, before the Chiefs won Super Bowl LIV.
