While most clubs are preparing for the 2025 season, every team other than the Toronto Blue Jays should be looking forward to the upcoming offseason after hearing the latest from one of the league’s greatest hitters.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a four-time All-Star and Blue Jays first baseman/designated hitter, provided an update on his free agency decision following the 2025 season. Guerrero stated that he is willing to speak with every team in the league about signing this next free agent. He is open to a conversation with the New York Yankees. The Boston Red Sox, for example, do not want this to happen. They should be at the front of the lines to prevent the Yankees from acquiring a superstar while also gaining another star for themselves.
The Red Sox have several options for making Guerrero one of their team’s major stars. Boston only has first baseman Triston Cases for one year, a $800,000 contract. Guerrero can easily take his place in the 2026 season. Guerrero recorded 873 putouts, 70 assists, 90 double plays, and 10 mistakes in 121 games at first base last season.
In 159 games at the plate last season, he had a.323 batting average,.396 on-base percentage, and.544 slugging percentage. He also tallied 98 runs, 199 hits, 30 home runs, 103 RBIs, 72 walks, and 96 strikeouts. These are some of his top numbers since his debut All-Star season in 2021. Boston’s infield lineup of Guerrero, second baseman Alex Bregman, and third baseman Rafael Devers would be one of the league’s greatest in decades. This would be comparable to the lineup that the Los Angeles Dodgers have assembled.
The Red Sox hope to make a strong postseason push this year, but they would be prudent to keep an eye on the next offseason for the possibility of acquiring Guerrero.
