This past winter was a busy one for the Boston Red Sox. The squad made some significant roster additions after missing the playoffs for the previous two years. Impact players like third baseman Alex Bregman, starting pitcher Walker Buehler, and ace Garrett Crochet have been added to the roster by chief baseball officer Craig Breslow. There’s always space for development, though. Miami Marlins player Sandy Alcantara is another big fish that Breslow is expected to snag, according to MLB insider Jim Bowden’s 2025 predictions article.
“The Marlins trade Sandy Alcantara to the Red Sox for right fielder Wilyer Abreu and a prospect package of righty Luis Perales, infielder Franklin Arias and righty Juan Valera,” Bowden wrote in a follow-up piece.
The Red Sox have painstakingly rebuilt their farm system, which is currently among the finest in baseball. Top prospect Kristian Campbell is expected to begin the season in the majors, most likely as the starting second baseman. Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer could both make their debuts this season. The starting rotation, led by Crochet and Buehler, as well as other local guns, would become one of, if not the greatest, in the majors with the arrival of Alcantara. Would Breslow pull the trigger, especially if his team is in postseason contention? It certainly appears to be a move that the Red Sox’ manager would make.
Red Sox rotation would be one of MLB’s best with Sandy Alcantara
This proposed contract for Alcantara is clearly a package that Boston can afford. Abreu had a solid debut season for the Sox last year, but they have enough depth to replace him. Especially if Anthony is prepared to take over in the right field by the time the trade deadline arrives. There are high hopes that Campbell, Anthony, and Mayer will make an impact at Fenway Park this season, which may propel the Red Sox into the middle of the pennant chase.
Although the package of prospects that Breslow and the Boston brass would give up in this hypothetical deal might sting quite a bit, it would still be worth it, especially if Alcantara resumes his Cy Young form. If that happens, and Buehler and Crochet impress in their first season in Beantown, then expect Breslow to be aggressive once more in his quest to make the Red Sox championship contenders. With this type of trade.

Although the package of prospects that Breslow and the Boston brass would give up in this hypothetical deal may be painful, it would still be worthwhile. Especially if Alcantara regains his Cy Young form. If that happens, and Buehler and Crochet shine in their first season in Boston, expect Breslow to be aggressive once more in his pursuit to create the Red Sox championship challengers. With this type of move, it’s reasonable to expect the franchise to win its 10th World Series victory soon.
