The San Diego Padres are still unbeaten. After sweeping the Atlanta Braves in a four-game series at San Diego’s Petco Park to begin the 2025 MLB season, the Padres opened their three-game homestand against the Cleveland Guardians with a 5-0 victory Monday night.
The Padres relied on their potent offensive early, with starter Kyle Hart pitching with plenty of run support behind him. After giving up one run in the first inning, Hart watched his teammates score four runs in the second. He left the mound after five innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits, four strikeouts, and one walk.
The Padres went 5-0 to start the season for the first time in franchise history after defeating Cleveland in the series opener, according to the team’s social media announcement.
San Diego’s pitching has contributed significantly to their early success. Through five games, the Padres have a 1.80 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP, which rank second and sixth in the MLB, respectively. The Padres will try to extend their undefeated record this Tuesday when they start Michael King, who was roughed up by the Braves in his first start of the season.

King lasted only 2.2 innings against the Braves last Thursday, surrendering three earned runs on four hits and four free passes, but escaped with a no-decision as the Padres won 7-4.
