The Boston Red Sox have had an entertaining previous several months. During this time, they managed to acquire starting pitcher Garrett Crochet in a trade to become the team’s new ace. Early in the regular season, Boston agreed to a contract deal with Crochet, keeping the lefty at the top of their rotation for the next six seasons.

Boston’s next major move was the purchase of Alex Bregman, but it was more than just that. The fact that Boston was able to slot Bregman at third base and Rafael Devers at designated hitter is significant because it opens up second base for Kristian Campbell.

The Red Sox trust in Campbell so strongly that they recently signed him to an eight-year contract deal despite only playing a few games in the majors. The 22-year-old top prospect will now be a fixture in Boston’s lineup, most likely at second base, for the next eight years before hitting the open market. This agreement should have the Red Sox and their fans very happy.

However, the Red Sox are not the only team to be pleased with this development.

Kristian Campbell extension is good news for the Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals are in their final year under John Mozeliak’s leadership. Mozeliak has been increasingly unpopular among fans after causing a series of problems with the roster in recent years. As a result, the majority of the Saint Louis followers are pleased with his departure.

Chaim Bloom, the former Red Sox general manager, will take over his position. Bloom has a proven track record in the front office and should provide the Cardinals with a fresh perspective. But why should Campbell’s extension delight Cardinals fans?

Because Bloom was the one who selected Campbell for the Red Sox a few years back. Under Bloom’s supervision, the Red Sox were able to establish one of baseball’s strongest farm systems, with Campbell at the helm. St. Louis will need this kind of leadership to crawl out of the hole Mozeliak has dug for them.
