Duke basketball fans are hoping that a FOX college basketball commentator provided the best hot take of his life.

In an appearance on Breakfast Ball, John Fanta was open about the Blue Devils’ Final Four berth and what Jon Scheyer has accomplished in his short time as the program’s head coach.

“I think Jon Scheyer will go down as one of the all-time great coaches in college basketball.”

While his start to his career has been spectacular, Jon Scheyer still has a long way to go before he can be considered for the Hall of Fame.

Scheyer, who recently earned his first Final Four appearance, has two ACC Tournament Championships and a regular season title. He led Duke to the Round of 32 in his first season and finished just short of the Final Four last year, losing in the Elite 8.

“When you look at successions, very rarely is this thing — do people succeed following — Coach K is one of one, but following a legendary or great coach,” Scheyer said after the Blue Devils upset Alabama to advance to the Final Four.

Granted, collegiate basketball has changed dramatically over the years, but Krzyzewski did not make an NCAA Tournament until his fourth season at Duke and reached the Final Four for the first time in his sixth season, a feat he would repeat 13 times and win five National Championships.

“For me, a huge thing was having that year,” Scheyer said, explaining how being designated coach-in-waiting had a significant impact on his initial success.

He won 27 games in his first two seasons, and his next victory would bring his career total to 90.

Fanta predicts two more wins for Jon Scheyer and Duke this season.

“He’s winning this National Championship and we’re going to be talking a week from now of how many [championships] can he win,” he told reporters.

“They are the most well-rounded team in the country.”

The Houston Cougars will probably have something to say about that when the ball is thrown on Saturday night (8:49 p.m. ET, CBS) in San Antonio, as the winner will face either Florida or Auburn in Monday’s championship game.
