Another significant distinction between the two is that Crochet’s agreement does not take effect until 2026, therefore it has no influence on Boston’s competitive balance tax number in 2025, whereas the Campbell agreement does. RosterResource calculates the club’s CBT number at $249MM, which above the $241MM basic level. Back in February, president Sam Kennedy stated that the club had already crossed the line and intended to stay there.
Torres hit his first home run of the season on March 28 at Los Angeles against Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto. However, the swing intensified what was previously merely slight rib pain. Torres was placed on the injured list a few days later, before the Tigers began their series in Seattle, after tests revealed a strained left oblique.
Torres, who has averaged 145 games over the last four seasons and has not been on the injured list since 2021, was originally hesitant to sit out.
But the nagging nature of the injury, sustained so early in the season, persuaded him it was the proper decision.
“Throughout my career, I’ve played with pain in my lower back, hips, and groin. But I always push myself because it’s generally the second half, September, and I want to play in the postseason,” Torres added. “But this is the first oblique I’ve done in my career. And it was essentially the second game of the season. I truly want to compete with my teammates every day, but for now, I just want to be clever. “I would rather lose ten days than four weeks.”
The Tigers promoted infielder/outfielder Justyn-Henry Malloy to replace Torres on the roster and moved Colt Keith from first to second base.
When Torres returns, Keith will return to first, and the Tigers will once again have to decide if Malloy can make the roster.
Torres signed a one-year, $15 million contract with the Tigers after being assured of a regular position at second base. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch has already dismissed any notion that the team may address the looming lineup crisis by shifting Torres to third.

“I don’t really know why that would be a topic,” Hinch said on 97.1 FM Friday. “Gleyber is our second baseman when he’s healthy, Colt moved to first, and Tork has clearly made his way into this lineup. It doesn’t change anything, but it’s not a topic we’ve explored or discussed because we expect Gleyber to be our second baseman.”
