The Atlanta Braves are in severe need of an outfielder after Jurcikson Profar received an 80-game sentence for PEDs. Profar will also miss the postseason due to a failed drug test.

Atlanta’s upcoming return of Ronald Acuña Jr. is not enough to keep the team in contention without acquiring another talented outfielder. Jon Conahan of Athlon Sports recently projected that the Braves would make a blockbuster trade with the Boston Red Sox to replace Profar with star Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu.

“During the first eight games of the 2025 campaign, Abreu has been one of the best players in Major League Baseball, slashing .500/.621/.1.000 with three home runs,” according to Conahan. “For a Red Sox team that does not require many prospects in return, moving him may not make much sense. However, given their current outfield situation, the Atlanta Braves may outbid them.

Abreu has gotten off to a hot start, so the Red Sox are increasingly unlikely to deal him as the season progresses. However, if the Braves can outbid Boston with a massive trade offer, they may be able to acquire him. A trade centered on top pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep, Bryce Elder, and possibly a lottery ticket position player prospect could persuade the Red Sox to move their 25-year-old infielder.
