Arizona Diamondbacks just agreed on a $116.5 million deal extension. According to ESPN, the two-time All-Star strained his left hamstring on Friday. The Diamondbacks defeated the Washington Nationals 6-4, but Marte’s injury took away most of the delight from the victory.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, they have since placed him on the 15-day injured list.
“The Arizona Diamondbacks officially place All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte on the injured list with a strained hamstring while calling up infielder Tim Tawa.”
Marte has had previous injury issues. He has suffered several hamstring ailments. Marte currently does not have an official injury timeline for his return. The Diamondbacks are clearly hope the injury isn’t too bad.
When healthy, Marte is one of the best second basemen in baseball. The 31-year-old placed third in the National League MVP vote and was selected to his second All-Star game in 2024. He ultimately slashed. 292/.372/.560/.932 over 136 games played. Marte finished with 36 home runs, 95 RBI, 23 doubles, and seven stolen bases.
The Diamondbacks aim to participate in 2025. They undoubtedly understand that winning the National League West will be a monumental task considering the presence of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ super-team. Nonetheless, the Diamondbacks’ NL Wild Card run is a serious possibility.
However, the Diamondbacks will need Ketel Marte on the field if they are to make a real postseason push. He is one of the top players in the game.
Arizona will play Washington again on Saturday. Despite Marte’s setback, the D’Backs want to continue forward. Overall, the Diamondbacks are 5-3. However, that record is only good for fourth place in the NL West, as the Dodgers, Padres, and Giants have only three losses combined.

The National League West is a talented division, to say the least. It goes without saying that the Diamondbacks will need Ketel Marte to return as soon as possible.
