One of the goals of every team, including the Notre Dame football team, during spring practice is to avoid significant injuries. On that point, head coach Marcus Freeman shared some bad news with the media on Saturday.
The worst news came for offensive lineman Guerby Lambert. Lambert has impressed coaches with his handling of blocks thus far in spring practice. However, he is taking the next few months off. That’s because he had shoulder surgery to repair a labrum, which will keep him out until the fall. Freeman did said he believes Lambert will be ready to go when fall practice begins.
The other Notre Dame football injury revealed on Saturday is particularly troubling because it indicates that running back Jeremiyah Love is once again injured. Freeman stated that the odds-on favorite for the Heisman among running backs had a hamstring injury. He did this while working with both the running backs and the receivers.

According to Freeman, Love’s injury is not expected to be serious. However, he may be unable to participate in spring practice for several weeks.
As practice progressed, a couple more injuries occurred. It was also reported last week that freshman wide receiver Micah Gilbert broke his hand on the first play of his first practice of the season. He, too, will have to wait until September to demonstrate his abilities.

Lambert’s injury is a setback for an offensive line that has much to show in 2025. After so many linemen left through the portal this offseason, those who remained and are expected to start must step up.

Love has something unique to prove to the Notre Dame football team. He must demonstrate that the hammering his body endured during the longest college football season in history will not follow him into a vital 2025 campaign.
