The pitching staff of the San Diego Padres continues to produce shutouts. In order to sweep the three-game series at Petco Park, San Diego hushed the Colorado Rockies’ bats once more on Sunday, blanking their opponents with a 6-0 victory.
The Padres outscored Colorado 16-0 during that series. Michael King pitched a complete game shutout in the final, getting eight punchouts throughout a 110-pitch start while giving up just two hits and a walk. Throughout the series, King’s brilliant performance punctuated San Diego’s pitching, which Colorado was unable to match. After that, he made four starts (22.1 innings) and improved to 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA.
Regarding King’s outstanding start against the Rockies, Shildt remarked, “You can’t be much better than that” (h/t AJ Cassavell of MLB.com). That is top-notch, grade-A, ace material. He was in charge the entire time.
Cassavell said that the Padres accomplished a remarkable pitching feat, making them the first club to do so in almost 60 years.
From Cassavell: “San Diego joined Cleveland in 1966 as the second team in Major League Baseball history to record six shutouts in its first 16 games.” The Padres are 10-0 at Petco Park, which is by far the finest home start in the team’s history, and all six of those shutouts have occurred there.
San Diego recorded its sixth pitching shutout of the 2025 MLB regular season against the Rockies to close out the week. As part of a three-game sweep, they defeated the Cleveland Guardians on April 1 after blanking the Atlanta Braves twice in a season-opening series late last March.
San Diego is proving to be difficult for visiting teams at Petco Park, having just achieved a major league feat for the first time since 1876. The Padres’ 1.10 ERA and 0.77 WHIP through 10 home games this season are the best in the major leagues thus far.

Can the Padres keep it going against a red-hot opponent?
This Monday night marks the start of the Padres’ exciting three-game series against the Chicago Cubs at Petco Park.
The Cubs recently defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers, the defending World Series winners, in a thrilling series. In the last two games of the series, the Cubs scored 20-2 more runs than Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium.
With an 11-7 record, the Cubs are now ranked No. 1 in the NL Central, while the Padres lead the National League West division with a 13-3 record.
