Auburn new 25

On Thursday, Chad Baker-Mazara shocked the college basketball community by revealing his intention to use the transfer portal.

With one year of eligibility left, Baker-Mazara has been a vital component of Auburn’s success in the last two seasons. However, it looks like he will be going somewhere else rather than finishing up his undergraduate career with Auburn.

That might not be the end of the story, though. College basketball expert Jeff Goodman claims that Baker-Mazara had previously agreed to a deal with Auburn that included “protection for the school” for the 2025–2026 campaign.

It will be interesting to watch how things work out if Baker-Mazara signs a legally binding contract with Auburn as he looks for a new home for the 2025–2026 campaign. Any details pertaining to Auburn’s “protections” are currently unknown.

This season, Baker-Mazara started 34 games for Auburn, which advanced to the Final Four and earned the top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. Throughout the season, he averaged 12.3 points, 3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.

The seasoned guard still has one more year of college eligibility because he started his career at Duquesne in 2020–21 and then took a redshirt year in 2022–23. When March Madness rolls around next season, Baker-Mazara will be 26 years old, making him one of the nation’s oldest collegiate basketball players.
