The Auburn Tigers went 7-of-28 from beyond the arc in their Final 4 rout this season, missing four of their last five attempts. Auburn made the deliberate decision to add a sharpshooter through the transfer portal, or revolving door, on Thursday.
Kevin Overton, a transfer from the Texas Tech Red Raiders, will join the Tigers for the 2025–2026 campaign under head coach Bruce Pearl. During his one season with the Red Raiders, Overton averaged 7.8 points per game and was a six-foot-five shooter.
Overton began his career with the Drake Bulldogs and was rated as a three-star prospect in the 2023 class. In the team’s only March Madness game against the Washington State Cougars, he made two three-pointers and averaged 11.2 points per game.
Overton played 22 games for the Red Raiders in 2024–25 after transferring to Texas Tech. He shot 42% from the field and averaged 7.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Additionally, he shared a 33% deep clip.
Twice, including in that team’s defeat to the Arizona Wildcats in the Big 12 Conference Tournament, Overton scored 20 points. Overton is in the 73rd percentile for shot-making and the 63rd percentile for points per possession, according to ShotQuality.

With the loss of talented guard Chad Baker-Mazara to the transfer portal on Thursday, Auburn has had a busy offseason. But they swiftly filled the void by bringing on Overton, who now joins KeShawn Murphy and Keyshawn Hall as further add-ons.
Last season, Murphy averaged 11.7 points per game for the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and Hall was named to the All-Big 12 team with the UCF Knights.
